Filippo Falzoni Gallerani
Psychologist – Author – Researcher in the Field of Consciousness
I was born in Cento (Ferrara) on July 15, 1951, and later moved to Milan in 1960. I graduated with highest honors in Psychology from the University of Padua and am a registered member of the Italian Board of Psychologists. For over fifty years, I have explored the inner dimension of human beings, integrating clinical psychology, meditation, and spiritual research.
My training and clinical practice are intertwined with an intense personal journey of research, consisting of travels, studies, and formative encounters that have profoundly enriched my understanding of human nature and its evolutionary potential.
Education and Clinical Practice
In the 1970s, I deepened my knowledge of depth dynamics through a course of Jungian analysis with Prof. Augusto Vitale, a historical figure and former President of the [CIPA/AIPA]. During those same years of training under the guidance of Prof. Max Beluffi, I completed a volunteer practicum at the Paolo Pini Psychiatric Hospital in Milan, conducting clinical interviews and administering various psychological tests to patients. This experience was fundamental in helping me understand the underlying dynamics of psychotic disorders.
Subsequently, in 1979, I attended post-graduate specialization courses and seminars at the California Family Study Foundation in Los Angeles, the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto (San Francisco), and UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles). My training in California was profoundly enriched by direct study with the pioneers of the systemic and strategic approach, attending classes by undisputed masters such as Paul Watzlawick and Jay Haley. Over time, my work has developed through a constant dialogue between Western psychology and Eastern wisdom traditions, with a particular focus on non-ordinary states of consciousness, hypnosis, non-duality, and processes of inner transformation.
Eastern Philosophy and Inner Research
Parallel to my scientific education, I embarked on long periods of inner research. Since 1975, I have spent entire months in Asia every year, making as many as 38 trips to India alone. There, I practiced under the guidance of a Shaivite master, Sri Babaji Haidakhan Baba. I stayed at His Ashram for extended periods, engaging in intense practices and studying Advaita philosophy for months on end. My spiritual and cultural explorations also expanded through repeated journeys to Tibet, Burma, Nepal, and countless other sacred sites in the East. On some occasions, I traveled alongside the famous theosophist and anthropologist Prof. Bernardino del Boca, a pioneer of the New Plane of Consciousness. These journeys, in contact with the wisdom traditions of the East, led me to a broad and inclusive spiritual vision, which proved fundamental to my psychological approach.
I have deepened my study of the works of Ken Wilber, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Ramana Maharshi, Sri Aurobindo, and Nisargadatta Maharaj.
My research has guided me to a coherent synthesis between Eastern and Western thought, drawing from Advaita Vedanta, Kundalini Yoga, Buddhism, Zen, and Taoism, which I have approached from the perspective of Transpersonal Psychology and through direct experience of the practices.
Founder of Transpersonal Rebirthing
In 1982, I personally experienced the intensive breathing technique known as Rebirthing. The method produced immediate, unexpected, and extraordinary results. From that moment on, I devoted my energy and studies to this field.
I was the first professional to introduce Rebirthing to Italy, differentiating myself radically from the original American schools which, while retaining the effective breathing aspect, were based on a highly fanciful and unacceptable New Age philosophy. Recognizing the transformative power of the method, I applied my knowledge of psychology and Eastern techniques to the breathing setting, founding Transpersonal Approach Rebirthing to spread this powerful catalyst in a coherent manner. To ensure the proper dissemination of the method, I directed the A.R.A.T. (Association of Transpersonal Approach Rebirthing) for several years.
Over the years, I have trained hundreds of practitioners and yoga teachers throughout Italy and worked with thousands of individuals. In individual sessions, this method has proven extraordinarily effective in activating self-healing processes for anxiety, depression, and existential distress, particularly in resolving disorders related to panic attacks, which are often triggered by breathing alterations. In many cases, I have observed results in just a few sessions; through intense breathing, traumas are processed, emotional and bioenergetic blocks are dissolved, and non-ordinary states of consciousness accompanied by clarity and an awakening of awareness become accessible.
Media, Explorations, and Outreach
My life is interwoven with explorations, both in the territories of the world and those of the psyche. In 1971, during a famous motorcycle expedition from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska, a severe accident stopped me just days away from my arrival. That extreme event triggered a profound near-death experience (NDE), becoming the turning point and the source of all my future studies.
I have collaborated with major Italian publications, writing pioneering articles on panic attacks, psychosomatic well-being, and health psychology for Starbene, Salve, and Corriere Salute. My professional activity has also been the subject of dedicated television features on Telemontecarlo (in 1991) and RAI (in 2006).
I have participated as a speaker at numerous conferences, including the 1999 Vicenza congress on the use of non-ordinary states of consciousness for the treatment of drug addiction. The event was established to present to the public the extraordinary clinical results achieved at the Breganze recovery community, led by Father Alvaro, where Dr. Pino Cicciù had successfully integrated the methodologies learned during my training courses.
